All CBA Undergraduate Majors have been required to have laptops since Fall 2002. Almost all of the CBA UG courses use the web based Blackboard Course Management software to enhance the availability of online course content and upgrade the electronic communication available for the faculty and students. TIS has prepared a self-service laptop guide that will lead students through the process of getting their laptop ready for use.
Selecting and Buying your laptop
The college has established recommended specifications for a laptop. Those specifications require that the laptop has the Windows XP Professional Operating System and sufficient processing speed, memory, hard drive and networking capability. A laptop buying guide is available on this web site to assist with the purchase.
Setting up your laptop
Your laptop will be ready for use in the College of Business (CBA) when you can access the wireless network on campus, access Blackboard, use Microsoft Office, use McAfee Anti-virus software to protect your computer against viruses and access your email account via webmail. A laptop setup guide has been published to lead you through the setup of your laptop. BA331 will have a 15 minute technology orientation that is part of the first class period.
Support for your laptop
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) runs a service center located in Acconda Court Room 103 to assist students who are having problems with their laptops. You may also request assistance by calling 974-9800 or ask a question by filling out a request form (scroll down to bottom of page).
