If you wish to obtain a computer with Windows XP, they can be purchased through the UT Computer Store (http://utbookstore.tennessee.edu/uccs/index.php?p=business). If your version of VISTA is not VISTA Business or VISTA Ultimate it will not work with the UTK computing environment).

Macintosh Computer Specifications

Mac laptops are available at the UT Computer Store. Current Apple models are on the business recommended systems page: http://utbookstore.tennessee.edu/uccs/recommended_systems/business/.

We recommend you work with the Computer Store to obtain the required software you will need & they will prepare a quote for you.

Additional Information

We strongly recommend that you purchase your hardware and software from The University Computer Store, 974-2930 or http://utbookstore.tennessee.edu/uccs/recommended_systems/business/. They know our program requirements, and their prices are competitive. Big box electronics stores are notorious for selling students the wrong operating system.

Executive MBA students (Aerospace, Executive and Professional): If you plan on using a company-issued laptop, be aware that you will need administrator privileges (to install software and reconfigure network settings), and you may not have them. Please check with your IT department to see if you have or can get administrator privileges. If not, your choices are to buy another laptop or buy a second hard drive for your company-issued laptop. A second hard drive must be:

  • 60GB or greater
  • Not external or USB
  • Swappable with the existing first drive
  • Bootable
  • Installed with Windows XP Profesional w/SP2 and Office applications before you arrive on campus

If you anticipate doing schoolwork at your office, firewalls and blocked ports may be an issue. Please check with your IT department to see if the following ports are blocked. You can test the ports by trying to access them through the Internet.
