Dr. Smith received a B.S. from McIntire School of Commerce, University of Virginia, MBA & Ph.D. from Kenan-Flagler Business School, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research focuses on issues related to top management teams, strategy-making processes and outcomes in deregulating or rapidly changing industries. Much of her research has used a qualitative, interpretative approach to understand how managers make sense of their organizational processes. Her research has been published in Organization Science, Entrepreneurship: Theory and Practice, Journal of Management Inquiry, European Management Journal, Journal of High Technology Management Research, Journal of Business Research, and other academic journals. She currently serves on the editorial board of Organizational Research Methods.
