Overview

The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree with a major in Business Administration and a concentration in Human Resource Development (HRD) is a 60 hour degree program for graduate students who seek careers in higher education or as managers/administrators of Human Resources

Residence Requirements

Residence is defined as full-time registration for a given semester on the campus where the program is located. The summer term is included in this period. During residence, it is expected that the student will be engaged in full-time study toward a graduate degree.

For the doctoral degree, a minimum of two consecutive semesters of residence is required. Individual doctoral programs may have additional residence requirements.

Applicants for admission to HRD's Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree program should request information and application forms from both the

Admission to graduate school to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Human Resource Development requires that prospective students

  1. complete and submit a graduate school application form to the Office of Graduate and International Admissions, and
  2. complete and submit a degree program application form to the Human Resource Development Program.

    In addition to the application form submitted to HRD, applicants must

  3. supply 3 letters of reference from individuals familiar with their potential for success in academic work;
  4. provide a statement describing personal career objectives; and
  5. supply recent Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) scores—HRD requires a minimum GRE composite score (quantitative and verbal) of 1100 or minimum GMAT score of 550.

If the applicant has prior work experience in Human Resources or a related occupational area, a reference letter should be provided by the work supervisor.
An applicant without a graduate degree in an area related to HR prior HR work experience, or a statistical background may be required to complete additional course work as part of their program.

Applicants must

  • hold a Master’s degree from an accredited institution and

  • present evidence of ability to do Ph.D. work, including having maintained a graduate GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0
    scale or better.

Any student below this level of academic quality must justify admission via other exceptional credentials
