New HRM Master’s Degree

Beginning in fall 2008, the College of Business Administration will offer a new Master of Science degree with a major in Human Resource Management. This program is designed for professionals wishing to pursue in-depth study within and across subject areas of human resources.

Specifically the program is designed for managers who wish to improve their ability to effectively lead and manage in public, private and nonprofit organizations. The non-thesis program is 33 hours and requires the passing of a comprehensive examination at or near the end of the program.

Students without a baccalaureate degree in business administration will also be required to complete coursework in Business Foundations. Human Resource Management (HRM) courses will provide the theory, knowledge, skills and abilities used by human resource executives and specialists in contemporary business practice.

The required courses include: foundations of HRM, training and development, staffing, employment law and labor relations, compensation and benefits, strategic HRM, and organizational behavior and development. The program will also provide application of the HRM practices through a professional internship or an applied organizational project.
