Donde Ashmos Plowman
Flaskerud Professor of Strategic Management
The University of Tennessee
I received my Ph.D. in Strategic Management from The University of Texas at Austin, an M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration from the University of North Texas, and a BA in English from Southern Methodist University. This fall I joined the faculty at the University of Tennessee as the Flaskerud Professor of Strategic Management. My colleagues and I here in the Department of Management are working on a new curriculum for a Ph.D. in Organizations & Strategy and hope to have approvals in place to launch the program in 2008. The University of Tennessee had a strong Ph.D. in Strategic Management some years ago and we are looking forward to a strong future again.
My research interests are in the areas of: decision making in complex organizations, particularly the participation of individuals and groups in strategic decision-making; interpretation, change, and leadership in complex organizations. Some of my articles have appeared in journals such as Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Decision Sciences, The Leadership Quarterly, Organization Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Journal of Management Studies, Health Services Research, Health Care Management Review, Journal of Management Inquiry, and others. I have taught undergraduate, masters, doctoral, and executive education courses in Organization Theory, Strategic Management, Organizational Decision Making and Organizational Behavior. Prior to joining the faculty at The University of Tennessee, I was Professor of Management and served as Associate Dean for Graduate Studies & Research in the College of Business at The University of Texas at San Antonio. While Associate Dean I was responsible for starting a new Ph.D. in Business.
